As an approved Boat Safety Examiner, based close to the Oxford Canal in Oxfordshire, I specialise in carrying out Boat Safety Scheme Examinations.
Although based on the South Oxford Canal within a few miles of Lower Heyford, Thrupp, Kidlington, Oxford, Aynho, Banbury and most of the upper Thames, I am willing to travel nationwide. I am a founder member of the Association of Boat Safety Examiners and, having spent over 25 years on the inland waterways, working as a senior hire fleet engineer and as a self employed marine engineer, I am happy to advise on all aspects of compliance with the technical requirements of the Boat Safety Scheme.

I can carry out Boat Safety Scheme Examinations at any location at a cost of £125 (£105 if no gas system is installed) - Monday to Friday 8.00am to 6.00pm, mileage is charged at £0.60 per mile. Weekends by special arrangement.
The cost includes up to two hours on site, in the rare event of extra time being necessary this will be charged at £40 per hour. Any re-examination required will be charged at a one-off fee of £40 (for up to 1 hour on-site, additional time required will be charged at £40 per hour), plus mileage.
Discounts can be negotiated for more than one Boat Safety examination at the same location and date.
The examination fee includes the issuing of all paperwork required: Examination Report; Appliance Record; Boat Safety Scheme Certificate, and an administration charge from the Boat Safety Scheme.
My aim is to ensure that your boat gets a Boat Safety Certificate, not look for ways to fail it!
However, in the event that it fails to meet the Boat Safety Scheme requirements, I will offer advice and guidance on methods of meeting the Boat Safety Scheme standards that will help to minimise the costs. I do not carry out any rectification work, but I am happy to advise owners who wish to carry out the work themselves, or liase with any third party engaged to carry out the work.
